Misfires on just about every level. Could have been – and so should have been – funny. Dysfunctional family ‘forced’ to sit Shiva at the death of the patriarch – uptight (grown up) kids, liberal sexually frank mother (Jane Fonda). Material was manna from heaven. So what went oh so wrong?????
I like Jason Bateman (Juno, Up in the Air) – and he just about saves the film. But he deserves considerably better material, adapted as it is by Jonathan Tropper from his own novel. Limp and contrived.
