foxcatcher__spanIn turns mesmerising and thoroughly warped, Foxcatcher is squirm-enducing discomfort, creepily scary and yet deeply sad.

A stunning trifecta of performances by Steve Carell (stepping well outside his comedy comfort zone of The Office, Crazy Stupid Love and the like), Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo bring the tragic (based on truth) story to controlled life. (Carell and Ruffalo may have received the Oscar noms but Tatum is a revelation as the laconic lunk of wrestler Mark Schultz.

A stunning film yet quite, quite horrible: wholly disturbing yet missing out on the shattering intensity that it could (and in many ways, should) have been.
