‘The Intern’

intern_xlgSadly, Nancy Meyers’ (It’s Complicated, What Women Want) latest is a missed comedic opportunity.

A nice premise – a senior’s intern programme at a successful internet-based company founded by a woman (Anne Hathaway – Les Miserables, Love and Other Drugs) brings recently retired middle manager Robert De Niro to the firm. Occasional warm, fuzzy moments (mostly early on) create hope for the film.

But its stop-start, all-encompassing storytelling with somewhat lifeless characters becomes dull, predictable and tedious – and the sexual politics ends disappointingly.
