‘Newness’

A gentle, modern day millenial love affair shot vérité style where two lovers meet, part, meet again as the use of a dating app is part of their everyday.

Divorced and lonely, chemist Martin (Nicholas Hoult – Mad Max: Fury Road, The Menu) is obsessed with the app. When a date doesn’t work, he looks to arrange an immediate second hook-up, meeting Gabi (Laia Costa – Victoria, Life Itself) as a result. A relationship evolves that pushes both emotional and physical boundaries including Gabi’s affair with the older Larry (Danny Huston – The Constant Gardener, Wonder Woman). Stuck in his past, Martin struggles with his mother’s dementia and the loss of an unborn child.

Director Drake Doremus (Like Crazy, Equals) quietly explores modern relationships as each look for constant newness and immediate gratification within their love. It’s an honest if somewhat negative portrayal – as much about the disconnection the two have with each other as it is about connectedness.
