‘The New Mutants’

A potential reboot of the X-men franchise falls flat in a dire, poorly scripted self-discovery saga of five young mutants holed-up in some kind of facility, a first-step, according to Dr Rayes (Alice Braga), to the school for mutants.

Inevitably not everything is as it seems as new arrival Dani Moonstar (Blu Hunt) quickly discovers. She’s not even aware that she has powers, much to the disgust of Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy), a mutant with attitude. It takes Rahne (Maisie Williams) to provide support – much needed, so it proves, as the five realise they need to escape.

Dull, predictable and a waste of a cast, The New Mutants, written and directed by Josh Boone, fails to ignite on all fronts.
