‘Innocent’

Undemanding four part miniseries as an accused murderer looks to clear his name and find the killer of his wife.

Far from being an original story, Innocent simply rehashes proven sucess to its telling. With his conviction from seven years earlier overturned, David Collins (Lee Ingleby) wants to rebuild his life, gain access to his two children – and identify the real killer. With DI Cathy Hudson (Angel Colby) assigned to the case, new eyes reveal new, overlooked and ignored evidence. An affair, a heavy debt, a very public argument, a late night visitor, a potential divorce all throw suspicions on friends, family members and Collins himself.

From jealous sisters to disgruntled lovers, secrets and lies tear the already fragile relationships apart. With sister-in-law Alice (Hermione Norris) the major beneficiary of Collins’ imprisonment (including guardianship of the two children), Hudson carefully unpacks the sisters’ relationship and that of husband, Rob (Adrian Rawlins).

Whilst hardly earth shattering drama, Innocent is an easily binged four part miniseries that, whilst lacking any sense of dramatic urgency, remains an engaging crime drama.
