‘Plane’

A macho strut of a feature but, unexpectedly for its genre, shows a degree of vulnerability as a commercial plane makes an emergency landing on a remote but far from uninhabited Filipino island.

As an electrical storm rages around TA119 Singapore to Tokyo, pilot Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler – Greenland, Angel Has Fallen) and co-pilot Sam Dele (Yoson An – Mortal Engines, TV’s New Gold Mountain) battle with a malfunctioning aircraft, losing all radio contact. Forced to land on a seemingly deserted island, anti-government rebel forces soon get wind of the potential financial hostage windfall. With no choice but to seek help from prisoner-in-transit, Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter – Skin, TV’s The Good Wife), Torrance must find ways to save the crew and passengers whilst the airline company attempts to find the location of the plane.

It’s a pulpy adventure tale from director Jean-François Richet (Mesrine, Assault on Precinct 13) but one that engages, entertains and provides a few unexpected twists against stereotype.
