‘Pulp Fiction’

A pop culture phenomenon, Pulp Fiction is a glorious intertwining of plots, subplots and characters in the underbelly of 1980s LA told with violence, blood and dark humour.

Two hit men – one (Vincent – John Travolta) having just returned from living in France, the other (Jules – an astounding Samuel L. Jackson) an amateur philosopher looking to get out of the business – do their business for boss, Marsellus (Ving Rhames). Washed up boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) decides not to do his business for Marsellus. Cue an interlapping of storylines with a few more tangential subplots including the famed John Travolta/Uma Thurman dance scene.

As it (and we, the audience) weave in and out of the non-chronological events unfolding, so writer/director Quentin Tarantino in only his third film delivers a darkly funny, wholly engrossing exhilarition of a wonderfully lurid masterpiece.

Nominated for 7 Oscars in 1995 including best film, director, actor (Travolta), supporting actor (Jackson), supporting actress (Thurman) – won 1 for best script.
